Visitors will find many wonderful Cairo attractions to see while they are touring Cairo.

What are some of the highlights you can and should expect to see in any quality Cairo, Egypt tours? First realize that Cairo is a very large city, and is usually divided up into four sections.
    •    Midan Tahrir, is the center of the city, and also the location of the Egyptian Museum along with some nice hotels.
    •    The business district area, which is the commercial “heart of the city.”
    •    Midan Ramses, which is the city’s main railway station and the home to many retail businesses.
    •    Finally, there is Garden City, an upmarket suburb.

Besides these major divisions, there are also areas separated by their history such as Islamic Cairo. Now what should be on your to-do list on your Cairo, Egypt tour itinerary?

The Pyramids of Giza

First and foremost you have to see the legendary Pyramids and the Sphinx, located in Giza. The Pyramids are the world’s last remaining wonder of the “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.” The best tours all include a trip to Giza to see these natural wonders. The second must-see exhibit is the Egyptian Museum at Midan Tahrir. This museum holds thousands of pieces of ancient Egyptian artifacts.

The Cairo Citadel

Next, is the Cairo Citadel located in Islamic Cairo, which is a giant castle originally built by Salah Al-Din. Religious and spiritual touring companies are always careful to include the Citadel for sightseeing day tours, as well as the Al-Azhar Mosque (the oldest university in the world) and Ibn Tulun, possibly the oldest and grandest mosque in the world.

The Nilometer

Another must see site in private tours would have to include the Nilometer South End of Roda Island on the Nile. The Nilometer is an ancient measuring tool dating back to 861.

Felucca Cruise on the Nile River

Last but not least, have a little fun on your budget tours by riding a felucca along the Nile River. The Nile River is not just an historical site but also a smashing place to relax and enjoy a night of stargazing. You can in truth order a felucca ride from various hotels as part of their package deal (such as at the Four Seasons Hotel in Garden City).

There’s no question that if you want to take guided tours of Egypt, Cairo should be first on your list. It is Egypt’s most important city and has much to offer every type of tourist personality.
